Public transport leaders of the largest metropolitan transport authorities gathered for the 56th General Meeting of EMTA in Sofia, Bulgaria. The meeting was hosted by the local public transport authority, Sofia Urban Mobility Centre, an EMTA member since 2023.
Against the rich cultural backdrop of Bulgaria’s capital, the focus of the event was centred on two themes: sales and ticketing of public transport fare products, and integration of regional rail services. Plenty of discussion was also had on current European policy proposals affecting bus industry and electric vehicles, as well as autonomous vehicles. In total, 41 participants from 25 different public transport authorities attended the meeting.
We also heard about the impressive work our host Sofia has done on sustainable mobility, with significant recent extensions to the metro network and a revamp of the public transport ticketing system. The meeting was opened by the Mayor of Sofia, Vassil Terziev
The next General Meeting of EMTA will be held in Helsinki, Finland, on 7-9 April 2027.
