Short description of PT network: modes and services

The Athens Public Transport system is the largest public transport system in Greece. It consists of a metro, a tram, an extensive bus and trolleybus network and a suburban railway which provides easy access to all major points of interest. The Athens metro is the backbone of the Athens Transport System. It has three (3) lines and provides direct connection of the City Center to the city’s entry points like the Airport of Athens, the Port of Piraeus and the Athens Railway Station. The Athens metro is extended from north to south and east to west, connecting the urban suburbs. Respectively, the dense bus and trolley network is serviced on average by 1.205 vehicles on a daily basis.

More specifically, OASA Urban Transport network consists of:

  • Metro Line 1: Piraeus – Kifisia, 24 stations (Line length: 25.6 km)
  • Metro Line 2: Elliniko – Anthoupoli, 20 stations (Line length: 18.2km)
  • Metro Line 3: Nikaia - Athens Airport, 27 stations - 3 under construction (Line length: 41 km)
  • Tram Line: Syntagma – Pikrodafni (19 stations) & Agia Triada (Piraeus) – Voula (36 stations)
  • Bus & Trolley Network: 258 Bus & 20 Trolley Lines
