How resilient is metropolitan public transport in Europe? What are the opportunities and threats of artificial intelligence when it comes to public transport? These, among many others, were some of the themes that were discussed during EMTA’s 53rd General Meeting, taking place in Toulouse on 21–23 May 2025.
Public transport leaders from 25 EMTA member organisations from across Europe had gathered to discuss the hot topics of urban mobility, as well as to hear from their peers. The meeting’s thematic focus was twofold: resilience on the one hand, and artificial intelligence (AI) on the other. We heard from different public transport authorities about their approach to operational shocks such as cyberattacks, and extreme weather events and preparedness to climate change and its effects. On AI, we heard insights from Oslo’s public transport authority Ruter, whose AI team was set up five years ago.
The meeting was hosted by our wonderful member organisation in Toulouse, Tisséo Collectivités.
EMTA’s next General Meeting will be organised in October 2025 in London, hosted by Transport for London, with a strong focus on ticketing and fare setting.
