On 3 November 2023, the Metropolitan Council of Porto approved the creation of the Metropolitan Transport Company. A new chapter opens for the region and reflects a commitment to improving mobility and quality of life.

“A historic document” for Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, president of the Porto Metropolitan Council (CMP), highlighting his role as mediator and thanking the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, for his “decisive role”. “Porto was one of those that least needed it, but it got involved to serve as a radial strategy for the rest of the Metropolitan Area”, highlighted the president of the CMP.

The Mayor of Oliveira de Azeméis, Joaquim Jorge Ferreira, stated: “We will be part of the group of municipalities that applaud the creation of the Metropolitan Transport Company, although we have some reservations. We don’t have a train, metro, funiculars or scooters but we have a metropolitan spirit. We are among those who will benefit the least, but we want transport to be an element of metropolitan cohesion”,

“It is a step we are taking towards standardizing the transport system. It is something that should unite us all”, agreed the president of the Chamber of Póvoa de Varzim, Aires Pereira. “I am very optimistic about the results we can have in terms of increasing mobility”, added the mayor of Gondomar, Marco Martins.
