Erik Norling, the CEO of SL in Stockholm, was unanimously appointed as the new EMTA President for a two-year term in the association’s General Meeting in London on 10 October 2025.

Mr Norling started at SL in 2021, when he was appointed Director of Traffic. He took on the role of CEO in April 2025. He has more than 20 years of experience in public transport, starting his career as train conductor at SJ, a Swedish state-owned train operator. Prior to SL, he has worked in leading positions in various public transport companies.

As EMTA President, Mr. Norling succeeds Laurent Probst of Île-de-France Mobilités.

“I’m looking forward to, together with my European colleagues, developing sustainable, smart and resilient transport networks in European metropolitan areas, and also to strengthening our common voice in EU mobility policy”, says Erik Norling.

“Having Erik as the new leader of the EMTA association is just fantastic. SL is a long-standing and active member of our community and organises world-class public transport. That, and Erik’s vast experience in the field, makes him a perfect fit to be our president and I look very much forward to working with him”, says Thomas Geier, Secretary General of EMTA.
